Radiant barrier insulation is an advanced attic insulation upgrade designed to help homeowners reduce radiant heat gain, improve indoor comfort, and support better energy efficiency. In Seguin, where hot Texas weather can quickly raise attic temperatures, radiant barrier insulation can help reduce the amount of heat that moves from the roof into the living areas below.

Radiant barrier works differently than traditional attic insulation. Blown-in insulation increases R-value and slows conductive heat transfer. Radiant barrier reflects radiant heat before it builds up in the attic. For many Seguin homes, the best results come from using both together.

Green Energy of San Antonio can inspect your attic, review your current insulation levels, check attic ventilation, and recommend the right solution for your home.

What is a Radiant Barrier?

High-Performance Non-Absorbing Insulation That Reflects Radiant Heat

Radiant barrier insulation is typically installed in the attic beneath the roof deck, usually along the rafters. Its purpose is to reflect radiant energy from the sun before that heat can build up in the attic and move into the rest of the home.

This is different from blown-in insulation. Blown-in insulation helps increase R-value and slow conductive heat transfer between your attic and the rooms below. Radiant barrier insulation helps reduce radiant heat gain from the roofline.

For homes in Seguin, radiant barrier insulation can be especially helpful during long stretches of hot weather. By reducing radiant heat transfer, your home can feel cooler, your HVAC system can run more efficiently, and your monthly energy costs may become easier to manage.

Learn more about how radiant barriers work.

How Does Radiant Barrier Work?

A radiant barrier helps control indoor temperatures by reflecting heat away from the attic before it can move into your living space. Without a radiant barrier, solar heat is absorbed by the roof, transferred through the roof decking, and radiated into the attic.

Standard attic insulation helps slow the movement of heat after heat has entered the attic. A radiant barrier helps address the heat earlier by reflecting much of it away. When installed with the reflective surface facing an attic air space, radiant barrier insulation can help reduce summer heat gain and improve the overall comfort of your home.

Stay Comfortable Year-Round

Our Green Energy Radiant Barrier is designed to reflect radiant heat during hot months and help retain interior infrared heat during cooler weather. This helps promote more balanced indoor temperatures throughout the year.

For Seguin homeowners, radiant barrier insulation can be especially beneficial in rooms that feel hotter than the rest of the house, spaces beneath the attic, or areas that receive intense sun exposure. By reducing attic heat transfer, your home can feel more comfortable while your cooling system works more efficiently.

Built From a Material That Doesn't easily Break Down made in the USA

Radiant Barriers from Green Energy of San Antonio are made with aluminum, chosen for its high reflectivity and long-term performance. Aluminum resists corrosion and holds up reliably in demanding attic conditions, making it a durable choice for attic insulation in Seguin homes.

This durability makes Green Energy Radiant Barrier a strong choice for Texas homes where attic conditions can involve high heat, humidity, and seasonal temperature changes.

Enhance Your Existing Insulation

Radiant barrier insulation can be installed as an added layer alongside your current attic insulation. Rather than replacing blown-in insulation, a radiant barrier complements it by targeting a different form of heat transfer.

Blown-in insulation helps slow conductive heat. Radiant barrier insulation reflects radiant heat. When used together, these insulation solutions can help reduce attic heat, improve thermal performance near the ceiling line, and support better comfort throughout the home.

If your attic has low, settled, damaged, or uneven insulation, you may still need additional blown-in insulation even if you install a radiant barrier. Green Energy of San Antonio can evaluate both and recommend what makes sense for your home.

Thinking Of Installing Solar Panels?

Radiant barrier insulation can be a smart upgrade before investing in solar panels. By improving your home’s energy efficiency first, you may be able to lower your energy demand before sizing a solar panel system.

When your home uses less energy to stay cool, you may not need as large of a solar setup, which can help reduce solar installation costs. Green Energy of San Antonio can help Seguin homeowners improve home efficiency with radiant barriers, attic insulation, replacement windows, and other energy-saving upgrades before going solar.

We are very pleased with the radiant barrier we had Green Energy install in our attic. We have definitely noticed a difference in the closets that the attics are connected too. We had an issue with the upstairs AC unit after install and Green Energy responded immediately even though it was after 8pm. The issue was resolved quickly and efficiently. Personal and responsive, professional service. The value will continue to tally up as the years go by. Thank you to the Green Energy team!

We had a mid-grade radiant barrier installed and also had some insulation blown in over our garage, which has never had any the entire time that we have lived in this house. They did an excellent job and I can definitely notice a difference in how much less hot it gets in our garage now. It’s still pretty toasty but not hot enough to bake a cake out there anymore!! We are VERY satisfied with the work that we had done, and would definitely recommend Green Energy to anyone!!! 😁 šŸ‘

Six years ago Green Energy installed my radiant barrier, blown-in insulation, and a couple solar powered attic exhaust fans. They did a terrific job and I am still super happy with the outcome. I combined all of this work with replacing my single pane windows with double pane. Immediately my monthly average electric bill dropped from about $425 to about $220 and has remained in that range ever since!

Last week I called them regarding a warranty question. The phone was answered immediately and I received nothing short of superior support. I cannot express exactly how happy I am with Green Energy, even six years after installation!

I had Green Energy of San Antonio come in and install Radiant Barrier, Soffit vents, and install a ridge vent on my house. They did an excellent job! My house was instantly cooler, and my HVAC system actually turned off. It usually runs non stop during the day because of the temperature outside. Thank you so much for everything!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is radiant barrier worth the cost?

Radiant barrier insulation can be a valuable investment for Seguin homeowners, especially in homes that struggle with high cooling costs, hot rooms, or attic heat buildup. In warm, sunny climates, radiant barriers can help reduce cooling costs by reflecting heat before it enters the living space.

When combined with other energy-efficient upgrades like attic insulation and replacement windows, radiant barrier insulation can help improve comfort, lower energy waste, and support long-term savings.

Exactly how much money will a radiant barrier save me?

Savings vary based on your home’s size, attic setup, current insulation, HVAC system, energy habits, and sun exposure. However, homeowners in warm climates may save up to 35% annually on energy bills with radiant barrier insulation.

Because cooling costs can make up a large portion of monthly energy use in Seguin, improving attic performance can make a noticeable difference. A radiant barrier helps limit heat transfer so your cooling system can operate more efficiently.

How much cooler will a radiant barrier keep my house during summer?

Radiant barrier insulation can help lower attic temperatures by reflecting radiant heat before it builds up beneath the roof. In hot Texas climates, attic temperatures can rise quickly and make the rooms below harder to cool.

Some homes may experience attic temperature reductions of up to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. This can make a significant difference in comfort, especially in rooms located directly below the attic or areas that tend to stay warm during the day.

Does radiant barrier work during winter?

Yes. Radiant barrier insulation can also support comfort during cooler months. While it is often associated with summer heat control, it can help reflect interior infrared heat back toward the living space instead of allowing it to escape into the attic.

This can help your home feel more comfortable year-round while supporting better overall energy performance.

What is the R-value of radiant barrier?

Radiant barrier insulation does not have an R-value by itself. R-value measures how well traditional insulation resists conductive heat flow.

Radiant barriers work differently because they reflect radiant heat rather than absorb or slow it. That is why radiant barrier insulation is often installed with traditional attic insulation. Together, they help address multiple types of heat transfer and improve your home’s overall thermal performance.

Do radiant barriers work?

Yes. Radiant barriers are especially effective in hot, sunny areas like Seguin because they help reflect radiant heat away from the attic. In warm climates, this can reduce cooling costs, improve comfort, and help your HVAC system run more efficiently.

Proper installation is important. When installed correctly, radiant barrier insulation can be a strong energy-saving upgrade for Texas homes.

Related resource: Radiant Barrier Myths Debunked

What is radiant heat?

Radiant heat is heat that travels from an energy source, such as the sun, and warms the materials it reaches. When sunlight hits your roof, the shingles and roof decking absorb that heat and transfer it into the attic.

Once the attic becomes hot, that heat can affect the rooms below. Radiant barrier insulation helps reflect radiant heat away before it has the chance to build up inside your attic.

How do radiant barriers cool a home?

Roofing materials absorb heat from the sun throughout the day. That heat moves through the roof deck and radiates into the attic, causing attic temperatures to rise.

A radiant barrier is installed beneath the roof decking to reflect much of that radiant heat away from the attic. With less heat entering the attic, your home can stay cooler, your air conditioner may run more efficiently, and indoor comfort can improve.

Will radiant barriers damage my shingles?

No. Radiant barriers are not known to damage shingles when they are properly installed. While they may slightly increase shingle temperature, the change is very small compared to the high temperatures shingles already reach during hot Texas weather.

This minimal temperature increase is not enough to cause shingle damage.

Can I install radiant barrier insulation myself?

Green Energy of San Antonio does not recommend DIY radiant barrier installation. Radiant barrier performance depends heavily on proper placement, spacing, and installation technique.

Even small mistakes can reduce the effectiveness of the insulation. Professional installation helps ensure your radiant barrier is installed correctly and designed to perform as intended.

Learn more about how to install radiant barrier in your attic the right way.

If I already have other forms of insulation, do I need radiant barriers?

Yes, radiant barrier insulation can still be useful even if your attic already has blown-in insulation. The two products work in different ways.

Blown-in insulation slows conductive heat transfer, while radiant barrier insulation reflects radiant heat. When combined, they can provide stronger attic protection and help improve comfort throughout the home.

Do radiant barriers affect wifi and cell phone signals?

No. Radiant barriers should not interfere with WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE, or common household wireless signals. Although radiant barriers use thin reflective material, they are not thick enough to disrupt normal wireless communication inside your home.
